- Introduction
- OK I'm in a good mood while writing this, so no snide comments about people not understanding this =D
- Requirements
- Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT4 (NT4 Must Have Service Pack 6, and Windows CE won't work).
- A computer, and applications to use this program with.
- What does this do?
- This program will hide applications and disable Ctrl+Alt+Del. This is convenient for people who may want to shut down your program for revenge or if you don't want people seeing or accidentally exiting your program.
- AppHide will also restart a crashed program automatically, and log everything that it does.
- Who made it and with what?
- [TCW]BAILOPAN designed it with Microsoft Visual Basic Professional 4.0
- He used a Dell OptiPlex GX110 with 128MB RAM, 6GB HD, Pentium III 667MHz.
- Oh, by the way. Did I mention a university pipeline? T3 internet connection? =D
- How to use it
- What is Hide?
- Hide is the prime function of AppHide. It will make any window or program completely invisible.
- How do I use Hide?
- Hide is fairly simple. Once you click the button, it will ask you for a window title. The window title is the text in the blue bar at the top of the program you are hiding.
- If you exit AppHide and the program is still hidden, it will be available for Un-Hiding next time you restart AppHide.
- How do I unhide a hidden program?
- Just double-click on its name in the list on the right. If it is not in the list, try exiting and restarting AppHide.
- What is Autostart?
- Every amount of seconds that you chose, Autostart will check all the programs that you chose too see if they are still running. If not, it logs an error and attempts to restore it, and then hide it.
- How do I use Autostart?
- First you must configure autostart.
- Select "Configure AutoStart"
- How many applications do I want to restart?
- This is the number of applications that Autostart will check, and restore if necessary.
- There is a maximum, 255
- How many seconds in between checks?
- The number of seconds in between checks for crashed servers.
- There is a thirty-two second limit.
- What is the application title?
- The title on the blue bar of the program you are going to use AutoRestart on. This is not case-sensitive, but make sure the lettering and spaces are exact.
- For you people who know something about the Windows API, I couldn't use ClassNames because all DOS programs are given "tty".
- What application do I look for on this question?
- You are looking for the program you want Autorestart to start.
- What are command line options?
- For example, you cannot start the Half-Life server just by choosing HLDS.EXE. You have to add options to it, such as
- -game cstrike
- +maxplayers 16
- +map cs_assault
- All these would result in a total of: -game cstrike +maxplayers 16 +map cs_assault
- If you do not know what they are, then contact someone who knows or leave it blank.
- It is configured, Now what?
- Make sure that you have hidden any programs that you want to.
- Click on the "Enable Autorestart" button.
- Autorestart will log everything it does to a file described in the next section.
- What is a log file?
- AppHide logs all the information it gets into a file starting with L and ending with .log.
- How do I know what log file is what?
- A log file is named after the time you started Autorestart.
- L110204.log is 11:02.04AM
- L235601.log is 11:56.01PM
- What does the log mean?
- The log logs stuff in these formats:
- If something is OK, the format for the log is:
- LDATE TIME<CHECK><hWnd>id<OK>
- Example: L07/20/2001 11:02:04 PM<CHECK><0204>MineSweeper<OK>
- If something crashes, the format for the log is:
- LDATE TIME<CRASH><REQUEST>id<RESOLUTION>
- Example: L07/20/2001 11:02:04 PM<CRASH><RESTARTING>Minesweeper<FAILURE>
- Example: L12/31/1999 11:59:59 PM<CRASH><RESTARTING>Minesweeper<SUCCESS>
- The log can become VERY large if your restart time is under 15 seconds. At 5 seconds, a two servers running for 8 hours will generate a log this big:
- 500K
- Three servers, running for 8 hours, checking every one second, can generate a log file this big:
- 4.9MB
- I still have questions. Please tell me your e-mail address or give me further help.
- Further Help is here:
- Chop your computer into bite-size chunks (for a human, not blue whale). Then proceed to lay them neatly on a plate. Bake at 450 degrees for about 3.5 hours. While you are waiting, read a book about a Spanish guy named "Manual".
- OR
- Take everything out of your computer and arrange it in neat piles on your chair. Stand on top of all the junk and the chair at a public place and scream, "Does anyone know how to read a manual?"
